Bill Riley’s Iowa State Fair Talent Search
CALL FOR ENTRIES: Johnston Green Days Talent Search June 16
For the fifth time in Johnston, the Bill Riley Talent Search will be conducted
at the Johnston Chamber of Commerce Green Days Festival on Saturday, June 20
from 2 to 5 pm. It is open to Johnston School District students only.
A winner from each of two categories will advance to the 49th Iowa State Fair
Bill Riley Talent Search Competition. Two categories of competition are
determined by age at the time of winning in the Johnston June 20 show: Sprouts
age 2 through 12 years and seniors age 13 through 21 years. Categories of
performances include:
*Vocalists: classical, country or contemporary
*Dancers: tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, acrobatic
*Gymnastic areas: classical or contemporary categories
*Pianists: classical or contemporary categories
*Pure “Mime”
One to five persons may perform in three-minute acts, and contestants may only
appear once in any given show. A piano accompanist is not counted as a performer
and may be any age, with up to three accompanists per act. Drums and amps are
discouraged due to the one-minute set-up time. Rock bands or similar musical
groups are not permitted, nor pre-recorded tape or any type of prerecorded
electronic musical accompaniment for vocalists. Cassette tapes are allowed for
dance acts, baton, etc. Professionals are not allowed to compete.

Contestant rules will be sent to you from the Johnston Chamber upon receipt of
your request, talent categories and age categories are limited.
The winners will receive
the following cash prizes from Charter Bank:
Sprout- $50.00 first place
$40.00 second place
$30.00 third place
Seniors- $100.00 first place
$80.00 second place
$60.00 third place
First place winners will advance to perform at the Iowa State Fair and perform
on the Bill Riley Stage August 9-19.
